A student stands over a patient, needle poised. They have a “perfect” prescription: a textbook combination of points harvested from a lecture slide on chronic lower back pain. But as the needle meets the skin, the student hesitates - the symptom of a quiet habit that has taken hold of our profession. We routinely say we “prescribe” points. It sounds efficient. It echoes the authority of biomedical culture and fits neatly into the insurance field. But vocabulary is never neutral; repeated long enough, it dictates behavior.
The Return of Acupuncture Poll
The popular Acupuncture Poll section of acupuncturetoday.com has returned in a revised and expanded format. Each month, a new question relating to acupuncture and Oriental medicine will be posted online. In addition to responding to polling questions, users may now voice their opinions by leaving comments. When your vote is recorded, your comments (as well as the latest poll results) will appear on a corresponding page.
Results of each poll (and selected comments from each question) will be published in the printed version of Acupuncture Today. To cast your vote or find out more information, visit Acupuncture Poll at acupuncturetoday.com/acupuncturepoll.
