WFAS Elects New Officers, Plans New Symposium

By Editorial Staff

Dr. Yun Liu, former executive member of the World Federation of Acupuncture Societies (WFAS), has been elected vice-president for a four-year term.

The election was held last November in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, during the 7th World Acupuncture Congress of WFAS. Kabba Anand, LAc, former chairman of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, has been elected as an executive member of WFAS for a four-year term.

WFAS, an international NGO represents 50 countries and 140 acupuncture organizations. The group is based in Beijing, and serves in an advisory role to the World Health Organization (WHO) on traditional medicine. Its mission is to promote understanding and cooperation among professional acupuncture societies, strengthen international academic exchange, support advancement of the medical science of acupuncture, and to promote the role of acupuncture in serving the health of people worldwide.

On Nov. 6-7, 2010, WFAS, along with the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association are sponsoring an international symposium on acupuncture in San Francisco. The theme is acupuncture research. Co-sponsors include the China Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, the Center for Integrative Medicine, the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Society for Acupuncture Research. Speakers include Lixing Lao, PhD, LAc; Rosa N. Schnyer, DAOM, LAc; and Richard Hammerschlag, PhD, among other illustrious and renowned presenters. The details of the symposium will be published at the WFAS Web site: www.wfas.org.cn/en.
