The mission of the American Institute of Alternative Medicine is to thoroughly
prepare students for careers as an acupuncturist, tui na practitioner
or massage therapist through lecture, hands-on laboratory and clinical
training. Inherent in othe school's mission is nurturing and developing
professional healing arts practitioners in their own individual style,
art and energy through basic and continuing education.
History
The American Institue of Alternative Medicine was founded in September,
1994. Originally known as the Massage Away, Inc. School of Therapy, the
school relocated from its original campus in Westerville, Ohio to its
current location in Columbus, Ohio in December 1997. In 2002, it changed
its named to the American Institute of Alternative Medicine. As part of
its ongoing changes, the scope of study at AIAM has broadened to include
both Eastern and Western philosophies. Students may now attend AIAM and
receive comprehensive professional level training in Swedish massage,
acupuncture and tui na therapy.
Programs Offered
AIAM offers diploma programs in acupuncture, tui na and massage
therapy. The master's level acupuncture program is a three-year, 2,058-hour
program, including studies in acupuncture, biomedical related sciences,
clinical training, counseling, communications, ethics and practice management.
The tui na program offers a 1,080-hour entry-level curriculum designed
to teach interested students traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theories
and tui na techniques along with Swedish massage philosophies.
The massage therapy program includes a 720-hour curriculum designed to
thoroughly prepare students for an entry level career in therapeutic massage
as a licensed massage therapist
